A brief of Boys Town.
When the Brothers arrived in 1955 in the heart of the Old City, it was a God forsaken area with few inhabitants with no facility and educational institutions were living a miserable life. They felt the need for an academic school to educate the children and began visit the families to motivate the parents about the importance of education. In a humble way established St. Marks Boys Town School by the end of the year 1955 with motto of “Education is Service”. And today, St. Marks Boys town High School is the largest and best school in the Old city of Hyderabad with 3500 Boys and Girls. Boys town empowers everyone with an integral education. We are proud to say that Boys Town is the largest Institution of the Province of Hyderabad.
St. Mark’s Boys Town High School and I.T.C. is situated at Jahanuma, in the Old city of Hyderabad. Boys Town was established in the year 1955. Rev.Bro. John of the Sacred Heart was the first Principal. It is a co-education school rendering education to every one irrespective of caste, creed and religion with a special emphasis to the economically poor and destitute children. Responding to the need of the time and place, co-education was started in the year 1990-91. The total strength of the school is 3119 students (Boys – 1902 & Girls-1217) with 5 sections in each class and there are 98 staff.
The School has secured 100% results for 12 times with an average percentage of Pass 93%. 14 Boys and 4 girls have been selected for National games (Foot Ball and Basket Ball) and won Gold and silver medals. The School has 2 troops of NCC and Scouts & Guides. 8 scouts and 8 guides have taken part in Mini Jumboree held at Jeedimetla. Scouts & Guides have participated in Rajiv Sadbhavana, Divas Gandhi Jayanthi etc.
Boys Town Industrial Training Centre is one of the largest Vocational Training Centres in A.P and the largest integrated training centre for the adult deaf and dumb in the entire Asia, is imparting training in 13 vocational trades for over 650 youth. All the trainees are placed with employment through campus selections in around Hyderabad and abroad. It has more than 7 MoUs signed with government and corporate sector
Boys Town stands as a model institution for the whole country. Boys Town boys home gives free boarding and lodging for over 500 youth who are marginalized.
The yeoman service rendered by the Brothers were appreciated and encouraged by the various inspecting officers, heads of the departments of the State and Central in general and particularly by the Education Dept.
